Susan Davis

Susanold

Director

Susan began at COL as a volunteer in 1997 and also served as a Board Member. She became the Executive Director of Channels of Love in 2001. Susan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Education degree in Counseling from Auburn University.

In 1994 Susan lost her brother to AIDS. During her brother’s illness, Susan, her parents, and her sister met so many people, who were dying of AIDS-related illnesses, in the hospice facility where her brother was receiving care. Susan and her family were heartbroken over the number of people that had no one come to visit or care for them. After her brother’s death, Susan’s pastor referred her to Betty Rushford and COL. She began volunteering and soon was asked to join the Board of Directors. When the director of the ministry moved away in 2001, the board asked Susan to serve as an interim director. Susan knows firsthand the stigma that, unfortunately for some, still exists surrounding HIV. She is so thankful for all the dear friends she has come to know and love through the ministry. She is thankful for Betty Rushford’s bravery and the vision she was given to start COL more than 30 years ago!

Beth Dotson

beth

Clients Services Coordinator

Beth first became involved with the ministry in 1993 through Chattanooga Christian School where she was teaching and started a community outreach program.  She wanted her students involved with COL knowing that it would not be an easy assignment.  During those years, many who had HIV were struggling with life and death issues and the stigma that came with being HIV+.  She fell in love with the clients and with her students, they visited clients in their homes and hospitals, mowed yards, repaired homes, held parties, and transported clients.  Soon, she began teaching Bible Studies.

In 2003 she was offered a full-time position at COL  working with client services and programming, teaching Bible Studies, providing HIV education, and coordinating volunteers.  She held this position for 11 years before leaving to return to teach at CCS. She continued her involvement with COL predominantly by teaching a Thursday afternoon Bible Study and staying in touch with clients as much as possible.

Beth retired from teaching in May of 2019 and has now returned to COL on a part-time basis. She has worked in the educational realm much of her life in both private and public arenas and in Christian Education in two churches.  Since 1983, she has served as part of the leadership team for Son Servants that conducts short-term missions locally, nationally, and internationally.
